New Law Requiring Auto Maintenance Services and Smog Checks to Check Tire Pressure?

According to the EPA, DOE, and several Think Tanks; if all the cars and trucks on the road had their tires checked it would save 2-5% of the amount of fuel we use in the United States. That's huge and no one can deny that. And since this is so the Obama Administration has asked the industry associations and EPA to look into this.

So far, they've been toying with the idea of making it mandatory for auto maintenance companies to check the air pressure in the tires of every car that comes through for service. If nothing else it will surely get people thinking and it will definitely save people who've had their cars are cared for by the auto service company a bit on their fuel bills from more efficiency with proper pressure.

Some in the auto industry do not like this idea, because if someone has their tires checked and then gets into an accident they might sue the car service company that did the last work, stating that they caused "in part" the accident. Those in the industry that are worried do have some good points, because we live in an outrageously litigious society, and we do have more lawyers per capita than any other place on the planet.

Heck, even our President is a lawyer. Thus, we have to ask is it wise to make this a law? Remember the Ford Explorer class-action lawsuit that took down Firestone Company, a company that had been in years over 8-decades? It would be nice to have the auto service companies immune to such lawsuits, but of course, if one ever is negligent or purposefully abusive (perhaps an employee with a grudge) then people will want the right to sue. So, I ask, what can we do?
