Some people spend hours and hours of their lives commuting to and from work. Comfort is therefore one of the main things people will look for when buying a commuter car. You will also want a car that offers great handling and is nice to drive.

Spending hours on the motorway can sometimes be tedious, so if you at least have a car that's fun to drive and comfortable you can't complain too much. This article runs through some of the best commuter cars around.

There's quite a lot of cabin space inside the Prius which is ideal if you travel with others. However, it won't do much for your image as it's not the coolest car to drive - if you're concerned with your image! However, I personally think that fuel-efficiency is a priority with commuter cars and this car certainly performs there.

Ford Mondeo - The Ford Mondeo has come on leaps and bounds over the past few years. The current model is the greenest so far meaning that you'll save money at the pumps. The Mondeo is extremely popular amongst commuters, and it has good reason to be. This car feels 'strong' to drive, which is what you want from your car when you're travelling up and down the motorway all day long...and what's more it's affordable!

BMW 5 series - Now, this is the pricier car in this list- but you get what you pay for. The BMW 5 series has an extremely classy image, and is one of the more desirable cars in the 'executive saloon' sector. The cabin has been fitted out with quality fittings and it's extremely comfortable - so at least you'll be travelling in nice surroundings during your daily commute. Steering and handling is excellent - this car is definitely one of the better commuter cars - if you can afford it!
