How to Choose a Car For Your Family

Buying a family car is usually a very diplomatic affair as it is usually not one person making the decisions but as many as five or six. You can never get the perfect car but usually have to settle for an average of what people want. If you have a large family then buying a six seat vehicle might be the logical choice. This is because such cars are the heaviest which makes them more bulky and slower to drive. The slower you drive the more safe it is for your family, this is a statistical fact and is also common sense. Such cars also have extended safety feature which reduces that impact of a physical collision. This does add to the weight of the car as the framework has to be increased in mass, which in turn increases your fuel bill. However it is money well spent to increase the safety of your family car.

Style is not one of the factors to consider when choosing but the practical aspects of the vehicle. Some of the factors would be number of seats or passengers that the car can carry and the amount of space that the car can hold in terms of storage. The price of such 6 seat family cars can cost anywhere between five thousand and ten thousand dollars. They are the next best thing to caravans when taking a family on a holiday. In my experience people always feel very happy when making a purchase of such cars due to the great practical aspects that a car like that brings.

Distracted Drivers

It used to be that the only real in-vehicle distraction that a driver had to be aware of was conversing with other passengers. Other than that, they could keep their minds and their hands on the road. Enter the car radio in the late 1920's and there starts to be a problem. Although it may seem silly today as radios are completely commonplace and expected to be included in even the lowest budget bars, but there was quite uproar about the safety of stereos in cars when they first came out. Many people were up in arms at the potential distraction hazards listening to music while in the car could pose. Drivers would tune out to the music and lose track of what was going on on the road. They would also not be able to hear warning signals such as horns or clattering in the engine.

But radios persisted and today we have much more than a little radio to contend with when it comes to distractions. The more technology advances, the more things we have to occupy our mind while we should be concentrating on driving. And these distractions go way beyond music.

Types of Distractions While Driving

Today, the most hotly debated topic concerning distracted driving is cell phone usage. But while you are operating a vehicle, engaging in anyone of the following things is considered distracted driving.

• Cell phones-many states have already enacted laws to require hands free cell phone usage while driving, but more and more studies find that even talking on a hand free set can cause a large degree of distraction.

• Texting-texting control is the newest war to be waged against distractions. Texting is one of the most dangerous things you can do while driving as it not only requires mental attention; it also involves eye contact with the phone. For now, texting is mainly a problem among young drivers, but this has only heightened concern among certain legislators who have noted the deadly combo of green drivers and this serious distraction.

• Make-up-some women boast that they are able to use an eyelash curler, eyeliner and mascara while driving. This poses two threats. The driver is in serious danger of causing a crash with another car and the make-up is a danger to the driver's eyes if she has to stop quickly.

• MP3 players-choosing the perfect song can make you perfectly unaware of the road.

• Eating

Defects in Roads and Highways

Just getting in your vehicle and driving is very hazardous in itself. Watching out for unaware drivers, hazardous environmental conditions and speed changes can be exhausting, but when you add the many possible road or highway defects into the equation, driving can be downright scary.

Road defects are not usually a thing drivers are constantly thinking about or aware of. They sneak up on you and can easily cause serious car accidents whether you are driving a car, truck, motorcycle or even riding a bicycle. It is important to be prepared for the possibility of defects at any time. If you can foresee potential hazards, you can effectively navigate between them.

Types of Hazards to Be on the Look out for

Certain types of road hazards are more obvious than other, but it is of utmost importance that you are prepared for anything that might be thrown your way while driving. Some potential road and highway defects include:

• Surface issues-this pertains to anything on the road that develops after long term usage without proper upkeep. Older roads that have not been resurfaced in a fair amount of time often have uneven surfaces, loose gravel and potholes that can cause loss of control when a car drives over them. If you detect any of these problems, slow down significantly and proceed with caution. If you encounter a large pothole that might potentially cause a tire blowout, look to all sides and see if you can change lanes to avoid it. A blow out or even multiple blowouts is never as bad as a car wreck, so if you can't change lanes very safely, just go over the pothole. If it causes a blowout, hold the steering wheel straight and allow the car to slow on its own. NEVER slam on the breaks. After you have slowed, carefully pull into a parking lot, far away from the street to change your tire.

• Traffic aid fault-this is when common place traffic aids installed by the government to help direct traffic and alert drivers to hazards are not functioning. This includes stop lights after a storm has caused them to lose power and damaged or missing road signs.

• Building activities-construction on the streets can be a serious hazard. Be ready for quick lane merges and possible hazardous objects left in the road from workers.

The Luxurious But Little Known 541S Classic Car

Not much is known or has been written about the 541S Jensen British classic car. The classic car that was made in Britain in the sixties is often ignored by the enthusiasts of the classic cars perhaps because not so many of them were made and also because their automatic version earned a very poor reputation as it never performed as it was expected to. The 541S Jensen British classic cars were designed by a Briton, Eric Neale of a company that was at that time owned by Alan Jensen. The first of their models were; Jensen CV8, that was created prior to the Interceptor and with a six-liter V8 engine, as well as 541S. The cars were hand built and had minimal maintenance requirements and in addition, their bodies were rust free. In 1965, CV8 was rated as the speediest four-sitter car. Before the production of the CV8, the other favorite model was the 541 (chiefly the Jensen 541S) that had a four liter straight 6 Austin Princes engine.

It is so surprising that despite the fact that 541S Jensen British classic car received more awards than any other classic cars of the time; it has not been comparatively expensive. The CV8 that was designed by Dave Horton and Jensen Owners club are credited for having won awards such as "Car of the show," "Best club stand, "and "Best of the master class" among other awards. The awards were deserved because the West Bromwich-based Jensen brothers designed and made cars that were extremely good. They are also credited for having being the pioneers of the disk brakes for a four-wheel drive that was the first to utilize the wind tunnel on the car's body design. The brothers are also praised for stressing on the importance of car safety. The fist car to be designed with standard safety belts was the 541S and was also padded with soft material below and above the dashboard. In addition, the window winders and the door handles were made to fit the recessed panels so as to minimize any possible harm.

Jensen brothers also won the "Silver medal for coach work" for producing a four sitter car that was also the fastest then. For a long time afterwards, the Jensen brothers' work on polyester resin coach and glass fiber has continued to stand the challenges of time. The car has a straight six-liter engine that has been designed with three SU huge carburetors and that is also connected to Jaguar Moss synchromesh gearbox which has an override. More over, the car servo works well with Dunlop disk brakes, a combination that places the car in the class of its own. The CV8's power is peculiar as very few cars which were produced in the early 1960's can be utilized as daily cars many years later.

Out of the one hundred and twenty seven 541S cars that were made from 1960 to 1962, only twenty two were of manual drive version. Though the car is little known today, it was at that time regarded as the most luxurious model of 541S.

Different Types of Car Shades

There many types of car shades that can be added to your car in order to minimize that amount of sunlight that the driver is exposed to. In the past accidents on the street have taken place because the car driver got temporarily blinded by sunlight and could not see anything ahead. When this happens it is not the normal human reaction to slow the car down, therefore the speed is kept high and a crash is very likely.

Shades for you car can be purchased to be stuck to the top part of the front window, this allows the driver to see a very reasonable amount of the road ahead whilst at the same time doing a good job of blocking out sunlight. Alternatively sun glasses can be used, but some people have reported that the overall view becomes too dim to be safe to drive. If you are used to sun glasses then this might not be a very bad problem for you and you can drive the car in a safe manner.

Stick on shades can be bought for as low as ten dollar from the shopping mall. These are made specifically to stick on glass windows of cars. The shape of the shade usually dictates where it can be stuck to in order to get the most usefulness out of them. If your vehicle has windows that are irregular then you might need to buy shades from a very particular kind of dealer who specializes in the variety of shapes of the shades.

Driving and the Elements

Driving a motor vehicle is a difficult task to do even on the most pleasant of sunny days. Car drivers must constantly be vigilant about road hazards such as inattentive drivers, objects in the road, projectile objects, speed changes and badly groomed roads or highways. With all of these things and more to worry about as a driver, adding bad weather to the list can cause many people to lose their cool. While driving in the elements is a risky and fairly difficult thing to manage, if you can remember a few vital tips about weather and your vehicle, you will greatly improve your chances of braving the storm unscathed.

It's Raining, It's Pouring

The best way to avoid a car wreck when the weather is foul is staying out of the car completely. In other words, if the weather is nasty, don't drive unless it is absolutely necessary. Bad conditions outside are when wrecks are most likely to occur. Especially if the weather is unusual for your geographic area and drivers are not used to operating their vehicles in the outside conditions. One of the greatest dangers in bad weather is actually out of control drivers rather than the weather itself.

The most common element that leads to car wrecks is rain. Rain can cause hydroplaning, impaired visibility and flooding. If you are in a storm, remember the following:

• If your vehicle hydroplanes, do NOT step on the breaks. Keep the steering wheel steady and continue forward

• NEVER try to cross flooded areas with your car. Many drivers think that their cars can make it and end up being dragged down flooded areas

• If rain gets so severe that your visibility is impaired, get OFF the road. Pull over and wait for the rain to subside

Fog

Bad fog is another situation where it is better to wait it out. Lights can seem multiplied and rear end wrecks are common. If you have to drive, turn off any distractions such as cell phones or music and turn your fog lamps on along with low beams.

Ice

Ice that appears invisible is called black ice. It often occurs on bridges and can cause complete loss of control. Ice can cause vehicles to slide through lanes of traffic or even off of bridges and overpasses. If you must drive in icy conditions, always put ice or snow chains on your vehicle and drive slowly.

Top Five Autos For Inclement Weather

If you live in a part of the United States prone to inclement weather - be it the Mid-Atlantic shore where hurricanes and nor'easters are likely to hit in late summer, or further north where winters are white and thick - you know how important it is to own an automobile that gets you where you need to be. Aside from reliability, safety concerns are a must when choosing your next car, truck, or SUV. If you rely on your car to tote family to recitals and school, or carpool co-workers to the office, the first priority is to get there without incident.

Which vehicles will get you there? While this isn't a definitive list of the best bad-weather cars, these are just a few suggestions to ponder when you browse the lots.

1) BMW - Sturdy European design had made this brand a popular choice for drivers across the country. The BMW all-wheel drive helps negotiate wintery roads and ice. Wagon models are available through the manufacturer for those who are constantly on the go transporting large loads.

2) Chevy Tahoe - Chevy's four-wheel offers a proven, rugged track for tackling bumpy roads, and extras like heated mirrors and halogen lamps are good for driving in white-outs and thick fog.

3) Subaru Outback - In rainy weather, the Outback's rides like a pro. Strong brakes and tires help drivers take to excessive water (to a point, of course - it's always best to stay indoors if your area floods).

4) Audi A4 Sedan - Audi's all-wheel drive and power steering is helpful for staying straight along bad roads and low visibility weather. Headlight washers and heated mirrors provide extra help in guiding the way home.

5) Jeep - No matter the condition outside, it seems you can never go wrong if you're driving a Jeep. A rugged carriage and all-weather tires, good brakes...this SUV is a good choice.

If you're unsure of the type of car or truck that's best for your needs, test as many models as you can before making that big purchase.

Lost Car Titles - What Can I Do?

Every year, it seems as if thousands of car owners lose their title, and if you do, it isn't the end of the world, trust me. We all lose things, and if you find yourself in this situation, I wanted to point out how you can get your title back in a few easy steps. Hopefully by the end of this article, you will have that good old title back in your hands.

How do I get my car title back if it's lost?

Contact the DMV: The first thing that you want to do is contact the local DMV office. Explain your situation, and see what they tell you. Since every state works differently, I can't sit here, and list how every 50 state works on getting a title back. Call up the DMV right around 8-9AM, when they open up, and see what they say.

You're going to find out that there's going to be a fee attached, and no, there's no way around it. The fee, again, is going to vary upon the state that you live in. You're going to need to provide proof that you own the car, as well as prove that you have insurance as well. The best thing to do when going to get your title again is to simply write down the VIN, as well as bring I.D. such as your driver's license.

As you can see by now, the only really way to go is by heading down to your DMV, and calling. If you'd like, keep checking your house, or where you thought you lost it, just in case it fell somewhere.

Read some of my posts on such how to find your lost car title, as well as read more of my work at FINDgascards.

The Best Commuter Cars

Some people spend hours and hours of their lives commuting to and from work. Comfort is therefore one of the main things people will look for when buying a commuter car. You will also want a car that offers great handling and is nice to drive.

Spending hours on the motorway can sometimes be tedious, so if you at least have a car that's fun to drive and comfortable you can't complain too much. This article runs through some of the best commuter cars around.

Volkswagen Bora 1.9TDI ST (130bhp): To begin with the Volkswagen Bora is quite a popular choice amongst commuters. It's reasonably affordable, quite comfortable and good to drive. This car is actually based on the Golf so it has most of the qualities you associate with Volkswagen's popular hatchback - great performance, good reliability... The only thing I'd say about the Bora is that it's not the best-looking car out there. But when you want a car to safely get from A to B, you wont be too interested in its looks.

Toyota Prius - Now, the new Toyota Prius will be a popular choice amongst those who are concerned about emissions and fuel consumption. There's quite a lot of cabin space inside the Prius which is ideal if you travel with others. However, it won't do much for your image as it's not the coolest car to drive - if you're concerned with your image! However, I personally think that fuel-efficiency is a priority with commuter cars and this car certainly performs there.

Ford Mondeo - The Ford Mondeo has come on leaps and bounds over the past few years. The current model is the greenest so far meaning that you'll save money at the pumps. The Mondeo is extremely popular amongst commuters, and it has good reason to be. This car feels 'strong' to drive, which is what you want from your car when you're travelling up and down the motorway all day long...and what's more it's affordable!

BMW 5 series - Now, this is the pricier car in this list- but you get what you pay for. The BMW 5 series has an extremely classy image, and is one of the more desirable cars in the 'executive saloon' sector. The cabin has been fitted out with quality fittings and it's extremely comfortable - so at least you'll be travelling in nice surroundings during your daily commute. Steering and handling is excellent - this car is definitely one of the better commuter cars - if you can afford it!

So...take your pick!

Avoiding Problems When Buying a Used Car

Lemon Laws do not apply to sales of used cars and are not regulated as well as the new car industry, therefore the used car market is wide open to anyone that has disreputable leanings as far as selling to the public is concerned. However, this does not necessarily mean that there is nothing you can do to avoid problems.

Do some research to begin with, and have a good idea of just what it is you are looking for in a used vehicle. By this I mean the category of vehicle - sedan, utility, wagon, truck, etc, and a few models within your chosen category. A check of the approximate values of used cars, the local car guide will give you some idea of what that type of car should sell for.

Looking for a used car should be done in the daytime, on a clear day so that you can see any faults more easily. If you are checking out used cars on an over-cast or rainy day, it's easy to miss what state the paint-work is in. Similarly, if you are doing this at night, the over-head lights in car yards are of a kind that enhance colours, and so are giving the potential buyer the impression that a vehicle is in better nick than the reality.

Always take the vehicle for a road test and then take it to your local mechanic and have them check the vehicle out. They will advise you of their professional opinion of the overall state of the car. Your mechanic will check the fluids, lights, belts, charging system, and air conditioning system, also get them put it on a lift and check the underneath of the vehicle for any frame damage, or damage repair. If there is a list of problems pass on it.

Make safety a primary concern. Purchase a pre-loved vehicle that is new enough to include airbags and if possible, anti-lock brakes as well. Always give a close inspection of the seat belts, pull them all the way out in case there is evidence of mildew or fraying. Although you may have to make some compromises when buying a used car, it is dangerous to compromise on safety and don't be overcome merely by the look of the vehicle. Just because it looks flash, doesn't mean it actually runs well.

If you follow these few tips, you will be able to avoid problems when buying a used car.

Vehicle Reversing Sensors With Voice Distance Indicator (VDI) Technology

Today's drivers are more safety conscious than ever. With the popularity of SUVs, trucks, and larger vehicles, blind areas behind vehicles are an increasing problem. According to a recent survey, over one-fourth of all automotive accidents occur when a vehicle is in reverse. Echo-Location sonar now makes it affordable for drivers to have an added dimension of safety.

Ultrasonic and radar systems use sensors mounted in the rear bumper to determine the distance of objects or people from the vehicle. Audible signals (e.g., chimes) or visual signals (e.g., dash warning lights) indicate when an object has been detected. These signals may intensify (i.e., get louder or flash more rapidly) as the distance between the vehicle and the object or person narrows.

In vehicles such as cars, minivans and SUVs, it's difficult to get a sense of what's behind you when you're backing up. This can be a dangerous problem if there are small children around, such as when you're picking up your child after school or sports practice. Rear parking sensors (sometimes called Rear Park Assist) ensure that you're made aware of objects behind you when the vehicle is in reverse.

These parking aid systems contain Echo-Location sonar used by the US Navy and are designed to detect objects near the vehicles' rear bumpers and warn drivers of their proximity during parking maneuvers. These systems are designed with exclusive patented Voice Distance Indicator (VDI) technology that literally tells the driver the vehicle distance in feet/inches to an obstacle. The sensors used in these systems operate in all kinds of conditions (i.e. Fog, Rain, Snow, Darkness, Bright Sun). The systems start counting at 8 or 12 feet (depending on the model) and count down to 12 inches and are accurate to within +/- 2 inches.

Tips to Remember Before Purchasing Honda Elements

The Element is Honda's entry-level crossover sport utility vehicle that will surely appeal to the active and the adventurous. Though the versatile four-passenger Element has ample space for passengers as well as cargo, it appears very compact in size and has all the personal car-like driving features.

The Honda Element is available in both the types - front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive. There is a choice of three trim levels: the LX, the EX and the SC. All trim levels are equipped with a 166-hp 2.4-liter inline 4-cylinder engine, mated to available five-speed manual or automatic transmissions.

The LX is equipped with 16-inch steel wheels, a CD player and air conditioning, while the EX has further features like alloy wheels, satellite radio, MP3 capability, an auxiliary input jack and a convertible centre console with removable cooler box. The sporty SC comes with a monochromatic exterior, custom grille, 18-inch alloy wheels, unique seat upholstery and piano black interior trim elements. The Honda Element 2009 has exterior and interior styling changes, as well as new standard and optional equipment.

As regards the 2010 Element, some feel it looks less elegant, but shoppers who look more for utility will like its performance. Passenger comfort is not a priority with the 2010 Element, but it succeeds in cargo-hauling and versatility.

Standard safety features on every Honda Element however include anti-lock disc brakes with brake assist, vehicle stability assist with traction control, front side-impact airbags, front and rear side curtain airbags and a tire pressure monitor. The 2010 Element has all the safety features and scores over the 2009 Element.

Coming to features, the 2010 Element caters both to buyers who want to keep it basic and also satisfies those who want a few more extras. If you're considering the most affordable 2010 Element, the LX trim, check the interior as you sacrifice a few of the bins and special materials that might make the inside more useful. Market analysts agree that if aesthetics is not the issue, Honda Element 2010 is this the most efficient way to get from one place to another.

Once you drive a Honda Element, your senses will tell you there are few vehicles to match Honda Element when it comes to smooth riding. The Element's supportive seats are worthy of a far more expensive vehicle. In fact, air vents, switches and HVAC controls are of high quality.

It can be said, without fear of contradiction, that the Element is an extremely safe vehicle, complete with top class crash ratings, vehicle stability assist and all the latest braking features. The Element has changed little since it was first introduced in 2003, and the basic features continue for 2010.

The Element's car-like handling and smooth engine has earned universal acclaim. But the fact is, a top-heavy feel and sluggish acceleration prevent the SUV from being a contender for best in class. The 2010 Honda Element has a three-year/36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty. How to buy Honda Element can be answered by suggesting the following five steps:

1. Get quotes from Honda dealers and compare rates

2. Search used Honda Element listings

3. Compare with other cars by studying the reviews

4. See Affordable Compact SUVs rankings

5. Find the best available insurance rates for the Honda Element

Features of Vanagons

Type 2 (T3) Volkswagen van was built from 1979 to 1991. In Britain and Ireland it was known as T25, as transporter or Caravelle in Europe and in United States, these are known as Vanagons. It was the last of the rear-engined Volkswagens. Vanagon is larger and heavier, with square corners replacing the rounded edges of the older models. The width of T3 increased to 12 cm and also the weight of the vehicle increased. Many changes were made in the vehicle. Few changes are as follows: Most of the mechanical components were new, size of rear door increased, design changed to square shape etc.

Initially, the same engines used to power the T2 were used to power the T3. In 1981, water cooled diesel engine was available as optional equipment. After three years, water cooled gasoline boxer versions were replaced with air-cooled ones. Vanagon was available with a 1.6 or 2.0 liter air-cooled engine. A 1.9- liter water-cooled engine soon replaced the prior versions. A 2.1 liter unit with fuel injection was offered as optional equipment. Diesel and turbo-diesel options were also used.

Vanagon has larger disc brakes in the front and drums in the rear. Amenities available in Vanagon are power steering, air conditioning, power door locks, electrically controlled and heated mirrors, lighted vanity mirrors and a light above the glove box.

Some usual features include brake master cylinder is inside the dashboard. To protect from external elements, battery in gasoline-powered models is located under the passenger side front seat. There is a compartment of slightly smaller size under the driver's side seat, for a second battery.

These vehicles are well-built and strong chassis are often found to be as good as new underneath, thus creating a platform with good scope for very long life if given minimum attention annually.

There are several Vanagon models available in US markets. Some of them are Vanagon L, which has optional cloth seats, upscale interior panels and an optional dashboard blower. Vanagon GL has the nicest amenities. Westfalia pop-top camper Vanagons has integrated kitchen and bedding. Westfalia campers are available in two variants, standard model and Weekender.

Buying a Car From a Private Owner Vs Dealership

Because it is such an expensive investment, buying a car can be stressful experience if you don't know where to look. There are many sources including private owners, manufacturer dealerships, and used only dealers, and auctions. Unless you are mechanically savvy and have years of experience buying cars, it can be difficult to know where to begin. Should you look at private owners in the classifieds? Should you drive around the local car dealer? Where do you begin?

If you are thinking about purchasing from a private owner, there are a few things you should know. Although you may be able to get a great deal from a private owner, it can be risky without proper research. You should ask to see the registration and check the car's Vehicle Identification Number and make sure they match. Find out about the title of the car. If the owner doesn't have it, talk to the financial institution that does. If the private owner can provide neither source, you should be suspicious. Also, before buying from a private owner it is essential to have the car checked out by a trusted mechanic.

Because their reputation is on the line, licensed dealerships are often one of the safest bets. A used car from a dealership must go through a rigorous inspection process before they are licensed to sell the vehicle, so you won't have to have a private mechanic look at the car. Most dealerships also offer financing options for purchasing the vehicle. Just be sure to do your homework before you go into a dealership so that you know a fair price for the car you have in mind. Going into the situation without facts is an easy way to spend more money than you would like to.

Used Lexus - Find the Right Model For You

If you are looking to buy a top class car with more than a little bit of sex appeal, then you could be forgiven for dreaming of owning a swish and smooth Lexus. As the classy younger sister of that oh-so-reliable brand, Toyota, Lexus have spent the past few decades building themselves a reputation regarding middle of the range cars with style and pizazz. They aren't bargains, but rather are automobiles with a history of car expertise and healthy management behind them, bringing you the best of the Toyota and Lexus brands combined.

Generally, a Lexus won't be one of those cars that you could never dream of affording. They may have a supercar (the absurdly expensive yet strangely desirable LFA) but generally these are businessmen's cars; luxury sedans, coupes and convertibles to keep you comfortable and cosy. Most of these cars, with their smooth leather interiors and curving dashboards, will attempt to transform your journeys into a whole different class - and the dirt of the tarmac may seem a long way away when you arrive at your destination.

Of course, shelling out on a pricey car that will lose thousands of pounds in value as soon as you manoeuvre off the forecourt doesn't suit everyone. Instead, many people choose to approach buying their first Lexus from a whole different perspective. These powerful cars have come a long way from their set up back in 1989, and as such they have a heavy dose of personality. To get used to your first ownership, it is often best to opt for a used Lexus, one that has known the bite of the road and will look after you as much as you look after it.

Of course, if you do opt for the relative luxury of a used Lexus then it makes sense to shop around before choosing which one you like. Falling in love with the sleek and powerful build of these cars isn't enough - you need to try Lexus' out, test them, drive them round and round and find the exact model that is right for you. Only then will you know if you are destined to own a used Lexus sedan, or whether the temptation of sunny days will lead you towards an always tempting convertible.

Once you have found the used Lexus that suits you perfectly and which insists on clinging your onto the road surface then the time has come to take action and actually buy it. You know what you want, you have researched trim colours and fabric types and Lexus knowledge is practically coming out of your ears. You are now an expert, and as such the used Lexus market is your veritable oyster. With so many cars on the market, the one you want will be out there, waiting to be found by an eager searcher with a keen eye for a little bit of Lexus magic.

Charitable Car Donation Centers

The main purpose of charitable car donation is to help people know how they should go about when they decide to donate their vehicles to a charitable car donation organization.

In recent years, many people have come to know how to go about donating their cars to the charity and they have also come to know that their donations are improving other people's lives.

This makes an individual feel good about his/her self because of helping the needy in the society. Over $650 million has been lowered in form of tax because nearly 200,000 people in the United States took a car donation deduction on their tax return.

That was just for the year 2000, Since then many people have opted for this initiative because when they donate a car they are able to settle a part of their federal tax returns and at the same time improve lives of majority of the poor people in the community.

Any one intending to take their cars to charitable car donation centers, should avoid the profit oriented organizations whose main aim I to pervasively handle the car donations.

People who have worked with such organizations in the past confess that the organizations tend to keep almost 50% of the total car's value and there are even those that keep as much as 90% or even more.

This makes the whole idea of giving the money raised after the sale back to the charity seam like one big joke.

So if a donor can by any means find a charity that can handle the whole car transaction by themselves, then they can be able to keep the whole 100% of the profit and by doing so the money goes to help those who need it the most.

After donating the car to the charity of your choice, the charity must then prepare a written statement of what they intend to do with the donated car. If the charity decides to sell the car, then it must sell it at a price that is below market value.

The charity might as well decide to make some improvement on the donated car. This means that the car should not be sold before the said improvements are done.

The agreement about the charitable car donation should be written down with full details of the donor and the charity organization for future references.

Hybrid Cars - Do Not Chose a Fancy Car to Make the Neighbors Jealous - Choose Eco Instead

A lot of people nowadays are tired of out-of-date obsolete gas consuming vehicles. Instead of looking and wanting a fancy car to make the neighbors jealous, they go for the more ecological ones. The ones that would reduce their gas consumption even by half. This new advanced type of cars is often referred to as hybrid cars. These hybrid cars also emit much less pollutants into the air, compared to common cars. This simply means, that if more hybrid cars are on the road, the environment would suffer less.

This is why they are the next big thing and it is only right you find out a bit more about hybrids. Hybrid car is a car that uses both electrical and petrol energy to get from one point to another. The electrical part of the engine is only running while the car is idle or when the gas engine is powered down. In these moments the hybrid is an electrical car. For example when stuck in traffic. This explains why hybrids are so quiet at intersections.

When you step on the gas pedal, the internal combustion engine starts and the car runs on fuel. Hybrids can also run on electric power primarily for a bit longer periods. They are especially useful for traveling in towns. For longer trips it will also need petrol.

Hybrids are really useful as they combine the better points of an electrical engine, with the ones from fuel powered engines. If you buy a hybrid car you cut on the budget needed for gas and do an even more important thing. You contribute your little piece, so we can make this world better and cleaner.

Protective Auto Dealer Supplies - Six Winter Survival Tips

As the calendar inches toward the end of the year, service centers and auto dealers should run through a simple checklist to make sure they're ready for everything that winter can bring.

First and foremost, even before checking your inventory of protective auto dealer supplies, you should consider basic safety: Service shops need to carefully inspect the hoses that carry auto exhaust from closed garage bays to the outdoors. Even small cracks can create a hazard, allowing dangerous fumes to build up in a service shop.

Replace any exhaust hoses that aren't in good shape, for the safety of everyone concerned.

Make sure you have an adequate supply of auto dealer supplies, including:

1. Steering wheel covers
2. Disposable or reusable floor mats
3. Plastic seat covers

Decide which floor mats suit your customers' needs best:
# Adhesive-backed mats are appropriate for restoration jobs, when you'll need to be in and out of a vehicle over several weeks' time. A good adhesive mat will last around 30 days without tearing or ripping.

# Plastic floor mats are available on rolls for quick distribution and are intended for one use and then easy disposal.

# Plastic-coated paper mats can be a good choice for smaller service centers that have some storage room. These mats can be re-used in several vehicles before being discarded.
If you plan to purchase single-use mats, consider taking the extra step of having your shop's name, logo and contact info printed on the mat, which can then be left in the customer's vehicle as a reminder of who not only fixed their ride up but also cared enough to keep it clean.

Lastly, take a moment to review your most recent experiences with your vendor: Are you satisfied with the level of customer service? Are your protective auto dealer supplies delivered in a timely fashion and as promised? Even if per-product pricing remains competitive, are the freight charges unchanged? Freight is an easy area to hide price increases.

If you have concerns, don't be afraid to at least investigate other suppliers. You may find someone better, or you may find out just how lucky you are.

What's the Best Hybrid Car?

A few years ago this question wouldn't have been very hard to answer as there were only a few hybrid models available. Today, however, many more car manufacturers have entered the market offering an increasingly broader range of vehicles leading many to wonder which model best fits their needs. Although hybrids are becoming more available in most vehicle classes, there are enough models in the sedan, SUV, and compact car market segments to do a reasonable comparison.

Best Sedan Hybrid
Along with being one of the first car makers to enter the hybrid market, Honda also has the distinction of being recognized as offering the best sedan hybrid. The Honda Civic Hybrid offers a the same sleek and sporty look as the gas only model and is difficult to distinguish the standard Civic. The sedan market is one of the more competitive markets for hybrid cars so coming out on top here is a significant achievement.

Best Sport Utility Vehicle Hybrid

The sport utility vehicle arena is the fastest-growing market for hybrids especially considering the emergence of the crossover SUV as one of the most popular market segments over the past couple of years. Combining the utility of a full size SUV with the sporty look of a sedan, the hybrid crossover market is big with consumers and the Ford Escape Hybrid tops the list.

The Ford Escape Hybrid was not only the first SUV hybrid it has also successfully fended off challenges from more established hybrid makers Toyota and Lexus (a Honda company). Although the fuel economy gains of hybrid SUVs over standard SUVs don't approach those of hybrid sedans, the ten or so miles per gallon boost provided is more than enough to push the Escape Hybrid to the top of consumers preference lists.

Best Compact Hybrid
The compact market has traditionally been the home of the hybrid due to its preference for economy over style and utility. Although compact hybrids do cost more than standard compacts, the eye-popping 70+ miles per gallon many compact hybrids boast has been enough to coax the extra dollars out of consumers pockets.

In the compact market, the Honda Insight comes out on top offering the best combination of styling and fuel economy even though it does sacrifice some comfort and engine power to maintain its eye-popping mpg values.

As with most consumer goods, which hybrid car is best depends a lot on personal preference and, in the case of a car, family budget. But, with the increasing popularity of hybrid vehicles, there's a good chance that there will be a viable hybrid option available the next time you shop for a car.

Carfax or Carfiction? Should You Make a Vehicle Purchase Decision Based on a Carfax Report?

Could it be a mistake to make a vehicle purchase decision based on a CARFAX™ report? Are CARFAX™ reports always right? Where does CARFAX™ get their data? How can CARFAX™ know EVERYTHING?

Good questions that millions of people don't ask. They have been hypnotized by an advertising campaign that even the car dealers have succumbed to... dealers who have been in the business decades longer than CARFAX™... dealers who have people on the payroll who can spot paintwork, high water marks, misaligned panels, etc. in a two minute walk-around and ROUTINELY find evidence of negative events that CARFAX™ knows absolutely nothing about. But millions of people stop asking questions the moment they read a CARFAX™ report that says 'A-OK'... and just as unfortunately, millions more stop asking questions when CARFAX™ reports a 'problem'.

There are thousands of auto body repair shops in this country. Their job is to fix cars that have been in accidents and declared repairable by insurance companies. For all practical purposes, if everybody does their job according to industry standards, the vehicles look and drive just like they did before the accident, and continue to provide great service for a normal vehicle life expectancy. For the person who had the accident, this is great... until they try to sell or trade the vehicle.

Once a vehicle gets hung with a 'bad CARFAX™ report', it's like YOU having a criminal record, or a REPO on your credit report. Even though you may have paid your debt to society, paid your debt, been wrongly convicted, or had your identity stolen... you are still branded. (That's a favorite term on a CARFAX™ report: BRANDED TITLE. It means that the state of registration actually has something on record that they have permanently attached to the title of this car, such as 'salvage rebuild' or 'stolen recovered'.)

CARFAX™ is a database. A well organized, cleverly packaged, and marvelously marketed database. CARFAX™ has done for vehicle history reports what Xerox did for copiers and Kodak did for cameras and Ipod did for MP3 players. Through their success, their brand becomes the synonym for the product for a period of time.

They get their data from motor vehicle registration records, insurance companies, law enforcement agencies, inspection stations, and auto repair facilities. MOST OF THE TIME, the information is technically accurate, and somewhat useful. BUT, and we have seen this happen on multiple occasions, computer keyboard data entry is SUBJECT TO MISTAKES... and the instant an employee of one of these organizations types in the wrong mileage, the wrong VIN number, etc. and CARFAX™ gobbles up the mistake (garbage in...), that vehicle may suddenly have a CARFAX™ report with a yellow triangle and a big warning: MILEAGE DISCREPENCY: POSSIBLE ODOMETER ROLLBACK! (...garbage out)

And then, of course, there's that 'fender bender'. The teenage driver comes home with the family car and the right front quarter is smashed. Trees don't call the police and concrete walls don't report to CARFAX™. Their insurance rates are ALREADY high enough, so they get this one fixed out of pocket. Very likely, there will be NO CARFAX™ ENTRY on this repair, even though it could be THOUSANDS of dollars worse than MILLIONS of other accidents that DID become 'accidents of record' with CARFAX™.

SO, is it ever a good idea to buy a car that has a 'BAD CARFAX™ REPORT'? It just might be the bargain of a lifetime! One thing is for sure: the dealer that is selling the car KNOWS he has a problem and he wants it to go away. Is his problem the CAR? No... it's the report. The dealer has inspected the car and has no problem with the fact that a body panel has been repainted. He would have no problem pointing this out to a customer who is considering buying the car... a customer who very likely wouldn't notice it EVER because it takes special training to spot good quality auto repair work.

The problem is the REPORT, and the fact that THE REPORT (not the accident and the repair) hurts the value of the car. YOUR job? Get your OWN 'car facts'. If you can see the car in person, ask the dealer to have their most experienced body technician point out what has been done to the car. If you can't see it in person, arrange an inspection BY A BODY SHOP, not by a mechanic. Be sure they put the car on a 'frame machine' and give you a printout that shows how the frame compares to 'factory specs'.

And once you have YOUR data, MAKE A KILLER DEAL and DRIVE A BARGAIN! Need more evidence? What would you think if you found out that one of the biggest and longest term supports of the CARFAX™ brand has decided to DUMP them in favor of a competitor? Here's a quote from an official communiqué:

"eBay has entered into an arrangement with Autocheck to provide history reports for every vehicle listed on eBay Motors. The "History Reports" tab will show the full report while there will be a summary just under the bidding section, above the description....These changes are scheduled to roll to our site over Monday and Tuesday of next week (Nov 2-3)." Of course, the question remains: Is Autocheck any better than CARFAX?

Proper Ways to Avoid Automotive Accidents

Everyone thinks that they are a good driver. No one wants to admit that they do not always obey the road rules of safety but there are some that brag that they get away with speeding down the freeway at over 100 miles per hour in their new fast car trying to push the vehicle to its limit that speedometer says the car is capable of going. Speeding is definitely not the way to avoid an accident. Nor is it the safest way to drive in order to protect you and your new vehicle.

The top offender of driving unsafely is the driver that has been drinking some kind of alcohol, no matter how little. Drunken drivers do cause many accident, injuries to themselves and others, damage to autos and property, and sometimes even death. It is never okay under any circumstances to drive if you have been drinking, no matter how good of a driver you think you are.

Another way to avoid having an auto accident is to always keep your mind on what you're doing. Don't let anything distract you from your purpose of being as safe a driver as you possibly can. It is also important to be a courteous driver. If you cut in front of someone who has a bad temper you could have a road rage situation on your hands and that could cause an accident including not only yourself and the road rage driver but also other drivers in the area. A simple act of being discourteous could cause injuries and damage to property. Being an aggressive driver does nothing but cause bad situations to happen on the road where someone is surely to get hurt. It is a good idea to know how to drive defensively but not aggressively, there is a difference.

Recent laws passed in some states have made it illegal to talk on your cell phone or text messages while you're driving. This distraction has caused many auto accidents leading to legislation regarding their use. If you get caught talking on your cell phone you will receive a citation that carries a high fee, and the more tickets you get doing so will increase the cost of the ticket. What could possibly be more important than your life? The responsible thing to do would be to pull over at the next convenient stop and return the call. If it's a text message and you can't wait to read it, again just pull over and stop. Never take your eyes off the road to read a message, it could cause an accident where you or your passengers are injured and your vehicle damaged.

BMW's Hydrogen Hybrid Future

With BMW's announcement that they're developing several models of hybrid vehicle to be introduced over the next few years a new market segment is starting to emerge - the luxury hybrid. Well known for innovation, quality, and style in the standard car market, BMW's entry into the hybrid market is sure to have a positive effect on the future of non-fossil fuel powered vehicles.

BMW 7 Series Hybrid
The first BMW hybrid model to be available will be in the popular 7 Series. Already in testing, this car will run on both Hydrogen and gasoline. The primary challenge of developing this kind of hybrid in comparison to the fuel cell technology that other manufacturers are using is in keeping the Hydrogen in liquid form so it's usable by the engine.

Because Hydrogen is only liquid at very low temperatures and the natural state of the engine compartment is very hot, keeping the hydrogen from getting too hot and evaporating is a significant challenge. Issues with transporting and storing Hydrogen at fuel stations is also an issue as is making the fuel available in enough locations to give motorists enough places to refuel to make owning the car practical.

Hydrogen Power
In contrast to other car manufacturers who are concentrating on gas/electric hybrids with the eventual goal of producing all-electric vehicles, BMW's plan has nothing to do with electricity or the heavy and expensive batteries that storing and delivering electricity to a vehicle requires.

BMW already boasts a car that runs completely on water and, with their proven technology that produces Hydrogen from sunlight, they believe an entirely self-sustainable fuel system using solar cells to product Hydrogen that will then power the vehicle is viable within the next decade.

Into the Future
The driving force behind BMW's push for Hydrogen fueled vehicles are the benefits they believe Hydrogen has over alternate fuels like gasoline, electricity, or other solid fuels. Not does Hydrogen pose no environmental threat and produce no emissions it's also a completely renewable form of energy that uses no natural resources that aren't easily replenished.

BMW's plan to eventually produce a car that runs entirely on Hydrogen produced by boiling water with energy from the sun (through solar cells) is certainly an exciting notion. Only time will tell if they can pull it off but the incredible promise of what they're trying to do makes this writer hope that they do.

Why Give a Hybrid Car Tax Rebate?

To encourage purchase of hybrid cars the United States Government has instituted a tax rebate program for those who buy a hybrid vehicle. The actual tax rebate amount will depend on the fuel efficiency of the hybrid car when compared to a gasoline powered car from the 2002 model year that's in the same weight class. The higher the increase in fuel efficiency, the higher the tax rebate.

Does Buying Hybrid Save Money?
Because hybrid vehicles cost more than conventionally powered cars the tax rebate can potentially even the playing field for hybrid cars by making up the difference. When adding in the cost of gasoline saved over the lifetime of the car and the increased resale value of a hybrid car you may actually come out ahead buying a hybrid even without the tax rebate.

However, hybrid cars are substantially more complex and require different and more expensive parts than conventional vehicles so, depending on how reliable your hybrid turns out to be, the increased repair and/or maintenance costs will eat into that savings.

Effect on the Environment
The obvious goal of this program is a social one - to give incentives to people to reduce pollution by driving hybrid gas/electric vehicles. The tax rebate attempts to remove the cost barrier as a negative to driving hybrid and prompt more people to consider purchasing a hybrid vehicle and, through that increased potential demand, prompt car manufacturers to increase production and expand their offerings of hybrid models.

One thing often missing in this discussion is where the electricity for these fuel cells comes from. Just because electricity is a non-polluting fuel type doesn't mean that the production of electricity is, itself, non-polluting. Despite the proliferation of water and nuclear power plants, the majority still burn fossil fuels like coal to produce electricity.

Granted, the production of electricity likely produces less pollution, in aggregate, than producing similar power through burning gasoline but it's difficult to argue that electricity is a pollution-free fuel source and a power source that should be relied on in future hybrid technologies.

Planning for the Future
An often cited benefit of the space race in the 1960's is the technological advances that came from researching and implementing a successful visit to the moon. Although these advances originally benefited the space program, many filtered down to more consumer-oriented applications and the general public.

It can be argued that providing tax rebates for hybrid vehicles serves the same purpose in the 21st century. By increasing demand through purchase incentives, the government is prompting increased supply from manufacturers and inventors who will produce ever more efficient and cost-effective hybrid vehicles.

Although gas/electric hybrids may not be the perfect long-term solution to our eliminate our dependence on fossil fuels, giving incentives for their production should lead to perfected technologies that will eventually make that goal a reality. Just like Velcro made it's way from an original application on space suits down to our consumer tennis shoes, it's difficult to tell how advances made during hybrid vehicle research will make our lives easier only a few years into the future.

Car Heaters - Popular Choices?

Soon after the Model T was created by Henry Ford, car heating systems came into being, and have been around since. The years since have seen many advances in heating systems which have grown to include different methods of heat distribution to various parts of the dash, in order to enable passenger comfort, which can be furthered with growing control over the heat-level and source of introduced air, which can be changed to recycled and to vented air from the atmosphere.

Heating systems are of many types. Note the following about these.

- The most basic is operated manually through the control head. Switches for this type include:
- The fan switch, which has four positions relative to speed.
- The temperature control which regulates heat.
- The position switch which dictates where air will escape from the dash.

Also note that:

1) The automatic climate control is another type of heating system. This utilizes at least two temperature sensors to keep it constant. Pushing the automatic button activates the system. The desired temperature is arrived at by adjusting the up-or-down button. Pushing another button helps adjust the desired position of escaping air. This system has a set of vents behind the front seat, and, in some cases, above the headliner, to help air move to the back seat. When the car doors are open, most system increase fan speed to maintain temperature control.

2) Portable car heaters are very useful, especially if it takes a while for your car to heat up. If you don't have one, but plan on buying it, then you should keep some things in mind. Some of these are power cord, adjustability and safety. Some tips for choosing the right portable car heater follow:

3) Safety is the most important thing you have to consider when deciding to buy something. Safety comes first. It's best to look for a portable car heater that has an automatic safety switch, and a cabinet that remains cold even when the heater is in use. That way, you can easily switch it off, and accidents won't happen if you touch it.

4) Next, you need to consider the power cord. When buying a portable car heater, check to see that the power cord is long enough for the heater to reach the back seat-something at least six feet long. No point in buying a portable car heater and then finding out only the front seat gets any heat.

5) Inspect the adjustability before buying a portable car heater. There are models that can be adjusted 45 degrees up and down, as well as ones that can be adjusted 90 degrees left or right. The latter is rather more practical, as they won't be focused on any single area, and all the passengers will get the benefit of your portable car heater.

We hope that this article has been of some help and you will now be able to make an informed choice as to which sort of car heater to acquire. Stay warm!

Car Dealers - Use the Financial Crisis to Your Advantage

The financial crisis, although not nearly as bad as it was in previous months, is still affecting all of us. Petrol prices are very up and down (unfortunately mostly up), and some businesses are only just holding on by their unfortunate fingernails, including car dealers and showrooms in some areas.

If you are thinking of buying a car however, this may actually be a good time to do it. Many car dealers have lowered the prices of new and used cars to stay in the game and remember what your Mother used to say? 'If you don't ask you don't get.' Be bold and ask for some free extras, if it means a sale, the car dealer is quite likely to throw a couple of freebies in.

Something that might also come in handy is trying to pick a car that will be cheap to run as no one can be sure of their situation in the future at times like these. With repossessed autos littering the car auctions lately, it might be wise to purchase something that isn't going to be a strain on your finances in the months and years to come. Unless of course, you're a premiership footballer, in which case you probably don't need to worry!

Some useful things to research when considering buying a car are miles per gallon, CO² emissions (some models have such low emissions that they are tax exempt) and how many years warranty the car dealer is offering. Some car dealers are also giving away free servicing for a certain amount of time after purchase, which is a great way to save money in the long run.

Before rushing into buying anything though, make sure you check how much it will cost to insure your vehicle. Insurance is a wallet emptier, so shop around for a model that won't end up costing you most of the price you paid for it in insurance. Amazingly, a select few car dealers are actually offering free insurance for the first year when you buy specific models. This is definitely something to research if you want to survive the big economic lottery and come out the other side with a decent car and a smile on your face.

Innovative Car Technologies

Over the years there have been some strange features/contraptions to have been installed on cars across the world.

Some people would call them innovative, others may call them bizarre - the latest car feature that has caught my eye is Ford's inflatable seatbelt. It's currently only available on models in the US - but surely it won't take off worldwide?

Don't worry though - the seatbelt isn't inflated for the duration of your journey, in the event of an accident it uses 'airbag technology' to inflate and expand around a traditional seatbelt.

The purpose of this new seatbelt is to help reduce head, neck and chest injuries among the more vulnerable passengers.

Other innovative technology that has recently been introduced in the 'Eco Pedal' from Nissan. The Eco Pedal is a simple feature that has been produced with the aim of cutting emissions. According to figures the Eco Pedal can reduce emissions by 10-15%, depending on the way you drive.

There is a light on the dashboard which indicates when you are driving within the 'optimum acceleration range for fuel economy'. The pedal slightly adjusts to ensure that you keep driving at this level - it may sound strange but you can't actually feel the pedal pushing back.

This pedal was introduced on selected models earlier this year.

Stop/Start technology has become quite popular throughout 2009 and is another feature that has been designed to preserve fuel and cut emissions. Stop/ Start technology automatically switches off your cars engine when you are stationary - at traffic lights for example. As soon as you press the clutch again the engine turns itself back on. This enables you to preserve your fuel, which means that you'll save money when you get to the pumps.

According to some recent research 15% of all cars will have this technology by 2015.

The new Lexus LS600 features some innovative and highly intelligent lights. By making use of a camera sensor in the rear view mirror, the Lexus is able to detect street lamps, oncoming traffic and vehicles travelling ahead - very clever!

The final feature I want to mention in this article is the safety-inspired 'lane sensors' which detect whether or not your vehicle begins to creep into the next lane. If this happens the device will set off a small beep to alert you...and save you from crashing into the vehicle driving alongside you!

This feature would be especially useful if it was installed in lorries as I always find them starting to creep into my lane on the motorways!

So, when it comes to new car features anything is possible...what's next?

Enjoy a Top Notch Vehicle From an Exotic Car Rental Company

World famous celebrities such as Madonna, Simon Cowell and others are some of the usual clients who rent exotic cars from exotic rental car companies in the USA. The question arises well why can't you do the same?

Celebrate and rent a top of the line car for a day, weekend or even a week. Wouldn't that be a special birthday or anniversary gift for someone. If your accounts agree with you then you maybe able to lease it, or even own it on a fractional ownership basis.

In the real world if you approach a dealership about renting it they would dismiss you pretty quickly and tend to some real business instead of a fantasy walk-in customer. You cannot get an exotic car as a rental from a dealership primarily because of liability and insurance complications.

Although, similar to renting a standard car like a VW Bug or Nissan, Mustang or SUV, you can rent a super exotic car directly from a car rental agency that specializes in these type of vehicles. Now you are one step closer to a 200 mph car. Although, we do not advocate going maximum speed in these cars.

Popular Exotic Car Rentals

The luxury sports cars and high end automobiles for rent is pretty extensive ranging from BMW, Mercedes, Aston Martin, Lotus to Ferrari, Lamborghini, Rolls Royce and Bentley manufacturers.

You may just settle on a standard green vehicle but let it be known that legendary Italian sport car maker, Ferrari may include plans to use green technology in its California F-430, that is retro-fitted for lower emissions and even a Lamborghini Estoque. Furthermore, it will enhance fuel mileage.

Remember DiCaprio was seen driving a Prius in West Hollywood, possibly to ditch the constant photo flashers. You can choose whatever you wish but you should definitely experience an elite car such as a Ferrari, Lamborghini or Bentley for at least a day. Then you can be the final judge

Why not check out some exotic car rentals near you so you can experience the car of your dreams. Take her out onto the open road and see what it can do.
