Jump in the Car and Go

Nowadays, if you suddenly feel the urge to want to get in your car and drive to Timbucktu, you have to think twice about it. Despite the fact that gas has seen a significant decrease over the past few months, there is speculation as well as new evidence to suggest that gas prices will be on the rise again. Already, people are starting to see the price of gas increase at various gas stations in their area. For many, this constant surge of up and down in the gas prices is wreaking havoc in their lives as they can never be sure from day to day whether or not they'll be able to afford gas. Add to this the ever-increasing worry that most of us have over the lack of job security, and suddenly you've created the perfect storm of things that can go wrong.

Currently the price of oil is around $40 a barrel. However, we are still spending well over what we should at the pump. In some places, people are spending upwards of $2 a gallon for gasoline. Granted, this is still significantly better than where we were months ago when gasoline was costing consumers well over $4 a gallon, but are we really heading back in that direction? The big name auto dealers such as Ford, Chrysler and GM are feeling the effects of a much slower economy as their prices and stock has dropped significantly. These companies pleaded for a bailout from the government, but this desperate act upset many Americans who felt like the auto companies should have been allowed to fail. With less people purchasing cars and perhaps even less people driving around due to increased gas costs, you have to wonder how this affects the day-to-day lives of so many who, in the past, wouldn't have hesitated to plan an impromptu trip to the beach or the mountains for the weekend. Instead, we are parking our vehicles in the driveway and dusting off our bicycles to run errands. No doubt, this increased concern over the failing auto industry and ridiculous gasoline prices have forced many of us to think of more creative, energy-efficient ways to get around from place to place, which may (in the long run) not be such a bad thing after all. As for the price of gas, only time will tell what will happen.

The media has already begun hinting at the fact that we can expect to see gas prices increase. I guess the question that so many of us are now thinking, however, is "Why?" Why is it that gas prices are set to increase if the price of oil is the lowest that it has ever been? Frustrated, angry Americans are blaming a greedy government while others simply sigh as they try to figure out how to arrange their funds in their dwindling checking accounts so that they can afford to drive to and from work over the next month. And while they may be thankful to have a job to drive to, is the cost superseding their actual paycheck?

200k Miles - Totally Reasonable Or Completely Absurd?

Cars are the most ridiculous things - Let me tell you why. First, we practically live in them! Don't believe? Well, if you drive an average 15000 miles per year, then that means you will sit in your car for 25 days per year(assuming an avg 40mph and that you spend every waking hour driving). And plenty of people average 20 mph and do 25000 miles per year which means they are spending 83 of the days of a year days navigating traffic. Cmon man (or woman), don't you have anything better to do?

And the amount of resources consumed - Bewildering!

Just the gasoline consumed by one single car in one year is about 750 gallons (15000m / 20mpg) which correlates approximately to completely filling a nice size hot tub twice.

And that is just to tote one person around for just one year! Consider that Americans drove around 2,656 billion miles in 2008 (yes! 12 zeroes after the 2!) which corresponds to filling over 380 million hot tubs. It boggles the mind to consider that most of that fuel comes from half way around the world. Somebody is making some money here and it is not me!

And the friggin tires! Assuming 20,000 miles per set on a car, that is a bit over 500 million tires. Where do they all go?

Your car went 200000 miles?

Then we get all amazed when they actually get to 200k miles. Lets look at this number a bit. It seems most people drive a car about 15k miles a year. So, really, we are only thinking that your car should last 13.5 years which seems reasonable(200,000m/15,000m/yr). Digging deeper we calculate that this means that the motor only needs to run 3700 hours (200,000/55) or 153 days(assuming 55mph - no sleep for cars).

Amazingly, that's what the car companies are designing for - cars that are expected at the high end to only run for 153 days before being considered completely worn out!

On the flip side, that distance is almost as far as the moon is from the earth. Additionally, the engine spun 667,000,000 times to get there.

Who do you work for anyway?

So, then you find out that the US auto industry employs 1 in 10 workers which is an improvement over the 1 in 6 just before the great depression. Well, what do these people do other than make their share of the 15 million cars sold in the US?

Well, they DRIVE!

All of them(considering they make cars)!

Now I'm all good and happy that people can buy cool stuff and all that but is this just a big shell game? Do we make money so that we can drive so that people can make cars so that we can make money?

What did we do when we didn't have a 4000lb steel cage to tote us around when we needed a fresh carton of milk.

Hey, I never said I had the answers.

Think Twice Before Buying a Hybrid Car at Auction

A hybrid car was NOT recently crowned as the 2009 Green Car of the year by America's Green Car Journal! Are hybrid cars just a fad? Is another form of power the "Real Green"..?

Yet these overpriced, misshapen things on wheels are touted as the answer to saving the environment. Maybe they will go the way of the "Pet Rock" for those old enough to remember it.

The car that got more points than the Hybrids, and took the crown, was none other than the Volkswagen Jetta TDI "clean diesel". No less than 9 experts from environmental and automotive backgrounds were impressed enough with its fuel economy, low emissions and strong performance to give it a big thumbs up.

Surprised.? Well, this TDI "clean diesel" version of the well known Jetta has been selling in North America since August last year.! The research and technology employed in advanced "clean diesel" engines means we can now drive "normal looking" cars and still leave a smaller footprint on the environment.

Repair costs will also probably be a lot lower too. Have you seen all the electronics and extra motors in those hybrids.? Has anyone looked into whether or not the manufacture of Hybrids and their vast number of components, creates more carbon emissions than "normal car manufacturing" ? I'm sure we may be shocked at the answer.

Just a few techie specs on the Jetta then:
2.0 Liter 4 Cylinder TDI motor that produces 140 hp and it still manages to get 50mpg and meet the most stringent emission control standards, California's Tier II, Bin 5. . and all this with a quiet engine that gives you plenty of grunt when you need it.

Now, I'm not pushing VW's or saying you should avoid Hybrids. What I am saying is that when you are at the next car auction, maybe keep an eye out for some of the "clean diesel" powered cars as an alternative to the Hybrid.

It maybe another 12 months or more before you see these Jetta's coming through the lanes to bid on. But don't overlook it just because it is a diesel. Even at the repossessed and seized car auctions, you never know what will turn up.

Of course, you still need to do the usual homework to make sure you don't pay too much. Visit our site to help you with that homework: http://autoauctionsguy.blogspot.com

Things You Should Look For When Choosing a Car Dealer

If you are planning to buy a new or a used vehicle, it is necessary to get in touch with a local car dealer and employ his services for making the purchase. However, it is equally important to make sure the dealership you have chosen is the right one. Following are the things you should look for when making a choice:

1) Reputation:

This is the most significant one. Reputable auto dealerships make fair business deals, and are honest and accommodating as well. To find a reputed one, you can either ask your friends and relatives, who have dealt with a good auto dealership before.

2) Services Offered:

Finding a reputable dealership is not enough. You should also make sure the services provided are appropriate. Following are a few services that most auto dealerships of good repute offer to their customers:

• Maintenance and service appointments

• Assistance for obtaining automobile loans, auto refinancing, and auto insurance

• Reasonable discounts on service rates

• Free extended warranties on used cars

• An updated vehicle list; usually no extra fee is charged if you request him to order a particular model for you from the manufacturer.

3) Price Range Offered:

Contrary to the common belief, the price you pay to the auto dealership is not just for the vehicle you are purchasing. Most auto dealerships include the cost of the 'add-ons', such as window tinting, accessories, CD changers, paint protector products, undercarriage coatings, and interior accessories, to the final price and force the customer to pay for the add-ons as well. If you do not wish to install these 'add-ons', let the dealer know the same right in the beginning to avoid any confusion later on.

Thus, aside from the reputation, also consider the above factors when choosing a car dealer.

See the Lancer Family at Mitsubishi Dealerships

Mitsubishi dealers around the world will be no doubt showing off their latest addition - the Lancer Sportback. You've no doubt seen the advert on television where a little boy asks his dad "where did I come from?" Unlike my dad, the on-screen one has the Sportback to help him explain the birds and the bees in graphic detail whilst showing off the curves of the car. "That's so cool" replies his son. "My friend Tommy only comes from Scotland". Oh the hilarity.

Yet the Sportback is most definitely part of the Lancer family and I reckon it sits somewhere in the middle. The Mitsubishi Lancer has been around the longest and has seen it all. It is subtly styled, drives sensibly and is reliable. It knows exactly what a customer that doesn't agonise over torque steer and turbo-lag wants and delivers it impressively whilst being, well, unimpressive and unassuming. Without doubt it is the granddad of the family.

Next up is the Sportback. Fittingly in the commercial a father is driving it and this is the role the car takes within the Lancer family. Everything is a bit sleeker, performance punchier and the ride sportier without ever being uncomfortable. Crucially it still retains the practicality of the Lancer and still does everything a family saloon should. Finally there's the snarling, raucous, fire-eating Lancer Evolution. Currently in its tenth incarnation, this car takes fuel economy, soft suspension and subtle styling and runs them over, reverses and dos it again just to make sure. This is the car that is worshiped by anyone will a large wallet and the inability to grow facial hair. Unfortunately I only fall into the second category. With 0-60mph coming up in 4.1 seconds, many a Ferrari has been left embarrassed and this is despite the Evolution having four doors and the same boot as its granddad. Yep, you've guessed it; the Evolution is the son that ran away from home, has some scrapes with the police for speeding and ended up mixing with the wrong crowd on the rally circuit. No wonder there's no mother in my Mitsubishi Lancer family tree.

So the Sportback is aimed squarely at 'cool' dads who would consider the basic Lancer 'boring' and the Evolution 'thirsty'. Why's it cool then? Well for a start Mitsubishi dealers' will have been told to say the front end is styled on that of a fighter jet. After all who hasn't wanted to be a fighter pilot at some stage? I certainly wouldn't get into the Sportback by mistake, rather than my F16 parked next to it, but you can see where they're coming from. Think of it more like the new front end of the Audi range and you'd be closer. The rest of the car is sensibly styled but found favour with me, even though I love more vents than a skyscraper on my cars. The interior is typically Japanese so what it lacks in flair, it more than makes up for in usability and the quality of materials used. That said, the Sportback certainly takes things forward from previous incarnations with the dials neatly housed in pods, and an on-board computer within easy reach (and one that's much easier to use than BMW's infernal i-Drive system). Rear legroom is good as is the boot which thanks to the Sportback being a hatchback rather than saloon like its other family members helps add far more capacity for your shopping.

On the performance front it's not going to give you whiplash but is more than ample for the school run or motorway cruising. The 1.5 litre diesel takes you from standing to 60mph in 11.8 seconds and onto a top speed of 114mph. One thing that did worry me is that despite this sensible performance, fuel consumption isn't great - 29.7mpg. Far more than an Evolution X I grant you, but only 4.7mpg better than the combined return a Mazda RX-8 gives you and that gives you whiplash AND rips your eyeballs out on acceleration. Yes it's not anywhere near as practical so let's move on. If you have read this and are thinking "the Sportback is for me" then great, you'll be pleasantly surprised with what you receive. If on the other hand you really like the Sportback, secretly want an Evolution but can't afford it (that'll be me definitely) then never fear as Mitsubishi are launching the Sportback Ralliart. Even sillier name, but it'll essentially be a Sportback with rally pedigree that'll fall nicely into the family between the Sportback and Evolution - step son? Cool uncle? Answers on a postcard please.

Muscle Cars For Sale

When searching for muscle cars for sale there are several approaches you can take. Many publications, such as Hemmings Motor News, contain a large classified section listing muscle cars of all makes and models. There are also many make-specific (i.e. Ford, Chevy, Dodge, etc.) magazines featuring cars of those particular companies that are available for sale.

The Internet has become a great source for locating hard to find muscle cars. Searching by name for a particular car of interest will reward you with many sites to investigate. E-Bay is another internet source where many people, private parties and/or dealerships, offer muscle cars for sale through an auction-type method. Internet sites such as Manheim Gold will help determine value of a muscle car for sale.

There are many factors in muscle cars for sale that contribute to the overall value and price of the car. Some people are looking for a muscle car as a project where they can begin with a minimum investment, likely on a car requiring much work, and are hoping that over time and with much money and time spent, their car will increase in value considerably. The most important factor is making sure the car is not full of rust, requiring a total frame-off restoration that will end up being quite costly.

Muscle cars for sale that have been kept in pristine original condition or have had a total frame-off restoration demand much higher prices, keep their value better, and make a great investment. The size of the engine also determines overall value in muscle cars for sale, with the high performance big block engines seeming to be more desirable.

Any Muscle Cars For Sale will make you a great deal of money, if kept in excellent condition.

Cheap Used Cars

As the economy continues to struggle, many people are looking at cheap used cars as a way to be able to find affordable transportation for themselves and their families. To make sure that you are not purchasing a lemon requires that you consider a variety of different factors when looking for cheap used cars such as: one, how many miles does the vehicle have on it.

In many cases the mileage that the vehicle has will tell you a lot about what kind of car you are buying. As a general rule those cars that crossover 100 thousand miles should sell for a considerable amount less than similar cheap used cars with less miles. The reason is once you cross this mark the car will start to have some different problems such as the alternator may go out or you could have an oil leak that you need to fix.

Second, has the engine been overhauled or replaced, in many cases when the engine has been overhauled or completely replaced it is the equivalent of starting out with a new engine. In many circles the engine is considered to be the heart of the entire car. In cheap used cars the engine can be the only thing that is important.

Third, does the car run on regular gas or diesel, in general diesel fuel is more expensive than regular gas. However, the engines are more reliable, meaning that you can put far more millage on a car that runs on diesel as opposed to regular gas. By considering the above factors you can be able to effectively locate the right cheap used cars.

Well Cheap Used Cars are the way to go, since were in financial hard times.

Pictures of Cars

One of my favorite past times is looking at pictures of cars on the internet. A picture of cars has truly developed since the 1950's when it was just a picture of a car with a sunset. They have really developed over the years. It is amazing to see how people have let their imagination run wild, and create these works of art. I have seen some interesting things over the years, like a casket car, to just a really cool paint job on a Ferrari.

My favorite pictures of a cars was a 1978 Pontiac Trans Am, this picture showed elaborate detail. It had a new design of the Firebird on the hood, bringing out sharper details and allowing the beauty to just pop. It was neon green, with very sharp edges, giving the idea that the bird was flying through the air. This Trans Am has neon lights on the inside and the outside of the car giving the impression that it glowed especially in the middle of the night. It was not like your typical car picture with neon lights that just showed a glow on the street, the lights brought it to life.

Not only has pictures of cars become more popular just on the creative side, it has also become even more popular because of the World Wide Web. People are now able to show pictures of their car to help their chances of selling. It is has become very popular and now you can reach more people then ever before. So keep looking at these fine pictures, whether for the art, or simply looking to buy a new car.

Well pictures of cars gives you the excitement of imagination, of a car you plan on driving. Its always great to visualize something before you actually get it. I have a picture in my mind of a hummer i would like to get in the future. I believe if you want the car bad, you will do whatever it takes to get it.

Visualizing Pictures Of Cars helps you paint a picture of your future car.

Getting Back on the Move - What to Do If You Break Down

At some point throughout most people's driving careers they will experience the inevitable sinking feeling when they realise that their car has died on the side of the road. Sometimes you maybe lucky and break down in a place that is convenient and keeps you out of danger on the road. Other times you may find that if you have broken down it can be difficult to stop and there is no where safe to park your car while you wait for help. If this is the case you should pull over as close to the side of the road as possible aim to cause minimal obstruction.

If you break down on a motorway try and pull onto the hard shoulder and park your car as far over to the left as possible. Remember that the hard shoulder is only for emergency use, so if you think you can make it to the next service station this would be the preferable option.

Once you have stopped you should turn your wheels to the left just in case the car moves forward, put the brakes on, leave on your side lights and switch on the hazard lights. This should make your car safe, secure and easily visible. If you need to leave the car then you should exit out of the left side and if you have a high visibility jacket you should put this on.

It is often best not to try and make even simple repairs as you could put yourself and others in danger. The best option is to contact your break down service provider. Some car insurance companies include this service as part of the insurance policy, whilst others do not and you may have been required to purchase separate cover.

If you have a mobile phone it is best to use this as you can remain seated in the car, however if you do not have a mobile phone you will need to walk up the carriage way to the emergency telephone. This phone is free and is manned directly by the Highways Agency, who will take down all your details and attempt to pin-point where you are. They will then be able to organise the best solution to get you back on the roads again.

If you don't have break down cover the Highways Agency should be able to arrange for an emergency tow but this can be quite expensive, definitely more so than if you had purchased the cover with your car insurance policy. Once you have made contact with the recovery services sit tight and relax and you should soon be on your way again.

How to Use "Pops a Dent" Effectively

Alright, so you just bought the "As seen on TV Pops-a-dent" or the Ding King "Twist a dent" and have tried using it. You may have even removed the damage a little bit, but usually, the repair results are less than respectable. How can we achieve better results? Allow me to disclose some wonderful information about how to use a dent puller kit you purchased more effectively.

This is supplemental information to be used while following the steps provided in the kit.

1. Plug in the glue gun and put a stick of glue in it.

2. Identify the impact area of the dent.

3. Look for high ridges, or "frowns".

4. If there are any frowns or high ridges you need to gently tap them down by moving around the higher area, tapping consistently.

5. Once you have reduced the high areas, then you can address the low area (dent).

6. Use the solution provided along with a soft cloth (diaper rag, retailer's towel) rub the damaged area you plan to glue until you feel the rag "grab" a little. The wax should be gone now.

7. Apply glue to the tab (careful hot!) and apply to damage (start in the impact area).

8. Set up dent puller.

9. Check whether the glue has set by touching the exposed glue that has squished out the side of the tab. If it is no longer sticking to your finger, but is just tacky it is ready.

10. Use the dent puller.

11. Use solution to remove excess glue.

12. Tap down any high areas you may have caused.

13. Continue this process until dent has been removed.

This is pretty much the same process I use with an industry specific kit I use on a daily basis. I would guesstimate I use my glue dent puller on a third of the cars I work on daily.

Good luck!

Do You Have What it Takes to Do a Car Restoration?

There's nothing like taking on a project like restoring a classic car. But in order to make it all worthwhile in the end, there are many things that you must do to avoid pitfalls, unnecessary expenses, and total disappointment.

Maybe you've done a restoration project or two. Maybe you're just getting started, or are in the process of purchasing the car of your dreams (in need of serious restoration). If you've already completed a project or two, you no doubt already know what you would and wouldn't do if you had to do it all over again. The best advice is always from those that have learned the hard way and have travelled the path before you.

The first question you need to ask yourself is what do I want my final creation to look like when I'm finished? Then of course, you need to check your resources (and your wallet). This should give you an idea of how long the project will take. Keep in mind that as long as you stick to your budget, you'll be able to keep your project moving at your pace.

Next, you'll have to go over what you have to work with. What kind of shape is the car in presently? What needs to be replaced? What can be salvaged? If you haven't bought the project yet, make sure you have a thorough look at every part of the car to make sure you know what you're getting yourself into. This alone can save you great headaches down the road.

So now you've got your car in your shop. Now it's time to begin the disassembly. It can get rather cluttered in a hurry, so make sure you stay organized. Label everything. Bag up bolts and small parts. I like to take pictures as I take things apart, as sometimes the memory is not as reliable as we think!

You are the only one who can decide how far you want to go with your restoration project. If you decide on a frame-up restoration, be prepared for the extra work. I understand if you need to cut corners to meet your budget, but if you're going to cover something up, keep in mind that rust will always keep growing, no matter what. Most times it's better to delay the project until you can afford the necessary parts.

There are many reliable shortcuts and time saving tips to help anyone taking on a restoration project. It's worth your time to explore some of the programs available that you can purchase online. The small cost of the program is far offset by the dollars and time saved by doing it right the first time. In the end, there's nothing quite like the satisfaction of knowing you did a great job!

Frugal Tips For Making Your Car More Efficient

We are still living in these tough times. Frugal living seems to be on everyone's mind every waking moment. Everyone is tightening the belt in all aspects of their everyday life. Their homes, their budgets, and overall making wiser choices. One area that might be overlooked could be the everyday driver we all use. Thankfully, gas isn't at 4 dollars a gallon, but we all can make some choices that will stretch fuel economy to the maximum. Overall, cars and trucks these days knock down pretty good gas mileage, but keeping that auto running in top form will get you more dollars per mile. Not only that, but keeping them running at their best will increase the life, and hopefully prevent costly breakdowns. We can't predict the future, but we can take some preventive measures to avoid major issues.

What can one do to increase their fuel economy? Frugal living in the automotive field is really simple. Some things you might want to try are these. Oh no, look - another list!!

1 - Keep a close eye on your tires. Regular rotation of tires and keeping them properly inflated is the top thing you can do to increase fuel economy. Longer tire life will be an added bonus.

2 - Keep up regular service intervals. Oil changes, air filter inspections, and a good look under the hood is another good way to avoid big breakdowns. Remember, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

3 - Most cars are equipped with cruise control these days. Use this feature while on the highway. A car's computer is a much smoother driver than even professional race car drivers. Let the car do the work for you. After all, you paid for it.

4 - Slow down!! Not only will this keep you out of trouble with the law, lower engine rpm's take less gas. Leave an extra few minutes early if you have to, just keep it at the speed limit.

5 - Avoid the jack rabbit start. Drag racing has it's place, and it's not at the stop light. A smooth, steady acceleration is the frugal way to go.

So, some helpful tips to include your car or truck in the frugal lifestyle. If you are uncomfortable doing these maintenance items yourself, there are scores of dealerships and repair shops in any town or city across the nation. They probably even have a special going on that day or a coupon. These professionals need us to spend money with them, and they in turn will provide a fantastic service in trade. This probably sounds like you won't have any savings by spending money on your vehicle, but the savings will be realized in the long run. A well maintained car is a happy and more efficient car.

To all who read this, keep fighting the good fight, and remember, we ARE on the road to recovery. There is nothing wrong with being smart in today's economy and living the frugal lifestyle. Together, we all can make a difference.

HHO Vehicle Help

It is astonishing that no automobile manufacturer is producing a hybrid HHO vehicle. It is so cheap any easy to do and offers gas saving of up to 60%. It is not even as if they would have to change much on their production line. An HHO auto simply has an add on to its existing gasoline engine. But then, that is the way of the world, isn't it? It is like light-bulbs designed to blow after a certain period of time.

It is also fascinating to know that HHO technology, or water technology as it is often called, has been around for over a century. It seems that until recently oil has been in such plentiful supply and cheap enough for manufacturers to overlook the option of water power. Yet it is such a simple system. For now I will confine myself to the one possibility available today: a kit form of HHO.

Kits are added to standard gas or diesel engines. No modifications are necessary. The only connections are to the carburetor intake hose, the vehicle's battery and the ignition system. It is not at all complicated and entirely safe. No hydrogen is stored on board the vehicle, so there are no flammability issues.

Advantages and Methods of an HHO Vehicle

The main advantages of an HHO car or truck are savings on gas and a rebate from the IRS to the tune of $2,000. Other bonuses are increased engine life span, decreased engine noise and an improvement in pulling power and acceleration. It is also very cheap to make: under $150. You may want to add another $150 to that if you need a mechanic to help out.

At the heart of an HHO vehicle is the generator. With the aid of a good instruction manual, anyone can build an HHO generator, even if they need a little help from their garage. No specialist tools are required and all the materials are available from hardware and plumbing suppliers.

The generator comprises a reservoir made from high temperature resistent material (CPVC, for example) and an electrode. The car's battery is wired to the reservoir and an electric current is passed through the water when the ignition is activated.

The water then reacts with the catalyst, producing hydrogen from the negative terminal and oxygen from the positive terminal. These rise as gas to the surface of the liquid and reform as variations of HHO. This hydroxy gas is then sucked into the carburetor via a bubbler. The bubbler is only there to prevent moisture from entering the carburetor.

Because ferrous oxide builds up on the catalyst, it is prudent to place it in a cradle to easily remove it for cleaning. A good way to avoid too much ferrous oxide build-up is to empty and replace the water every two or three weeks.

The electrical circuit is controlled by a very simple unit which also earths the entire system. It is very useful if you can control the amperage via the unit. It only costs a few dollars more to include this facility. It really is about as simple as that to make an HHO vehicle.

HHO Kit Facts

A good HHO kit will produce gas savings ranging from 20% right up to 60%. Such a kit supplies variations of HHO to the carburetor which burn four or five times better than gas. This is how the huge savings are achieved. In fact a vehicle rune solely on gasoline is only around 25% efficient.

HHO Kit Facts for the Beginner

HHO gas is formed from plain tap water. It is not a new discovery but it has only been in recent years that is has been applied to cars to and trucks to make them cheaper to run. The existing engine does not need changing in any way. An HHO kit is simply and easily added on; it takes about half a day to build and fit.

A decent home kit costs under $130 in materials all of which are very common and easy to get your hands on. Even with a good manual, some folk find the construction and fitting difficult. In such cases it is far easier and less frustrating to take the manual to a mechanic who will probably not charge more than $200 in labor costs.

At the end of the financial year an application should be made for a tax rebate from the IRS. They will refund $2,000 for a family car, gas or diesel, with an HHO kit and up to $50,000 for a heavy goods vehicle. Ensure that all proof of the conversion is also supplied: receipts for materials, manual and any labor costs.

It has been shown that HHO gas is far easier on engine gaskets, prolonging the entire life of the engine by up to twice its normal expectancy. The ride also becomes smoother and quieter. Acceleration and torque can also be improved somewhat.

Building an HHO Kit

It is absolutely essential to find a good instruction manual. A certain amount of good information can be found by browsing the internet but that can take a long time and some of the details will probably be a bit sketchy. It is far easier and more time efficient to spend the $50 or so on a downloadable manual.

Then you will find there are only a few basic elements to an HHO system. The most important part is the HHO generator. This comprises a small reservoir for the water and contains a catalyst. As an electrical current, drawn from the vehicle's battery, is passed through the water, the H2O reacts with the catalyst. Hydrogen bubbles off the negative terminal and oxygen from the positive. They reform in the chamber to produce HHO gas.

The HHO then passes through a vaporiser on its way to the carburetor where it mixes with standard gasoline or diesel. The result is the vehicle running partly on free gas, produced from water.

The other necessary piece of equipment is the electric control unit. The unit itself can sit anywhere although most people tend to mount above or below the dashboard. It just connects and earths the electrical system linking the ignition, battery and generator of the HHO kit.

Shelby Cobra

A Little Bit Of Cobra History

I've been a fan of the Shelby Cobra for years, but I never really knew or understood the history of these cars.

There were 3 different models of the Shelby Cobra made. They're known as the Mk I, Mk II and the Mk III. The three models were in production beginning from 1962 through 1967.

There was a brief production run of "new" Cobras in early 2003-2004, but I choose to ignore those cars since they're not part of the original run.

The original cars, named AC Cobras, started off with a 2.6 Litre Ford Zephyr engine. I don't know if you've ever seen a Ford Zephyr, but believe me, there's a good reason that you haven't seen one.

Despite having that engine, the Cobra met with some racing success.

The success of the car, caught the attention of Carroll Shelby, who needed and wanted a car with a V8 engine in it. Long story short, Shelby and the original manufacturer worked out a deal, AC shoehorned a V8 engine into their Cobra chassis and the Shelby Cobra came to life.

Shelby Cobra Special Models

There were a couple of limited production versions of the Cobra. One of the limited editions was the Super Snake.

The Super Snake had Twin Paxton superchargers, racing headers, racing rear end and racing breaks. The Super Snake was fast as all get out and was not for the faint of heart. Shelby's personal Super Snake sold at auction in 2007 for $5.5 million. The super snake is one of the rarest of the Cobra Models.

There was a Coupe model made. 6 total chassis were made for improved aerodynamics down the Mulsanne straight in the 24 hours of LeMans. They were known as Shelby Daytona Cobra Coupes. 1 of these cars was at a recent Cobra owners club meeting in San Marcos TX. I had no idea what I was looking at when I saw it.

Customizations

There were a lot of different models at the Cobra owners club meeting in San Marcos TX. Some of them were more interesting than others, but I think that a green car, with fangs and snake eyes for the headlights was my favorite car.

I don't know enough to know or tell which if any of the cars at the show were originals or a replicas, but I think they look cool nonetheless.

I usually write about social media and internet advertising at my site BigSexyMedia.com. I decided to take a break and share the pictures that I took at the show. I feel that when you talk about cars, you have to have pictures of the cars. Here's my free flickr picture slideshow http://www.flickr.com/photos/25874505@N05/sets/72157616134758898/show/ Please let me know if you enjoyed the pictures.

Auto Car Auctions Tips

Auto car auctions can be a great way to get an amazing deal on a new vehicle. Make sure that you know what you are doing so that you can avoid making mistakes, and walk away with the best deal possible.

First, you should always know what the market value of the car is. This will ensure that you do not accidentally overspend. Overlooking this fact can have you pay more than the car is worth, so it is important to know this specific information before you bid.

Bidding can become intensely competitive at times, so if you are planning to bid on one of the more popular cars, keep that in mind. Get there early so that you can take a look at which cars are getting the most attention. You will be able to know which ones will have the fiercest competition by which ones people are flocking towards. If you want to avoid competition, then avoid those cars.

If possible, take a mechanic friend with you, or at least a friends who knows a lot about the inner workings of a vehicle. You are not able to test drive a car before you buy it at auto car auctions but you will be permitted to start the car and look under the hood.

Get there early and do not forget to register for bidding. If you do not register then your bids will not count. Be sure that you know of a specific amount that you are willing to spend on a vehicle, and try not to go over that amount. It is all too easy to get excited in the middle of bidding and spend more than you have.

Governmentauctions.org has listing of where the auctions are going to be held and when they will be held. Auto car auctions can get you a great deal on a car.

Lincoln Cars - An Interesting History

Most do not realize that Lincoln actually had its beginnings as a company separate from Ford Motor Company. The company was started by Henry Leland in 1917 and named for one of Leland's heroes, President Abraham Lincoln. Henry Leland had actually been one of the founders of the Cadillac Car Company, which had been the Henry Ford Company. The Lincoln Motor Company was created to build Liberty aircraft engines for the United Stated during World War One. With the end of the war, Leland had the factories retooled to produce automobiles. Ford Motor Company was able to acquire Lincoln in 1922 when the luxury automobile manufacturer encountered severe financial difficulties. Henry Ford was quite pleased to be able to acquire the company from Leland. He viewed it as retribution as Leland had led investors to force Ford out of the Detroit Automobile Company, a company that Ford had founded.

Once Ford acquired the company, body style changes were introduced and the price was lowered. These changes resulted in increased sales to 5,512 vehicles sold in 1922. Up from the previous 150 models sold the previous year, which had led to the hardship that had forced the company into bankruptcy.

In 1923, several different body styles were introduced including a two-passenger roadster and a seven-passenger limousine.

A specially designed police model, known as the Police Flyer was marketed to law enforcement divisions around the country. A special draw was Ford's willingness to modify the vehicles to suit the needs of police officers in the field. Bulletproof windows were added, spotlights were placed on the sides of the vehicle and gun racks were mounted to the interior section of cars. The cars were also fitted with four-wheel brakes a full two years before they were offered on vehicles meant for private sale. These police cruisers coupled with the success of the four door private sedans allowed the Lincoln division to show a profit margin by the end of 1924 just two years after the company had been pulled from the jaws of bankruptcy.

The bestselling car in Lincoln's history was developed by a designer named Eugene T. "Bob" Gregorie. Gregorie was designing a car for Edsel Ford who wanted a sleeker vehicle more in line with European style cars. The Lincoln Zephyr was the result and was offered for the 1936 model year. Sales skyrocketed its first year on market and sales for Ford increased by 9 times what it had done the previous year. This was the car that would eventually become the Lincoln Continental, one of the most important cars in the history of Lincoln. The car was so successful that it was nearly used as a brand name by itself. The advent of World War Two ended production of the popular Zephyr when Ford converted many of its factories to war work. The Continental which would go on to become so famous was based on mostly completely of the Zephyr.

Lincoln has also occupied a prominent place in history by providing many of the vehicles that would be used as official state vehicles for presidents of the United States. The first Lincoln vehicle to be used in this capacity was a 1939 Lincoln V12 used by Franklin D. Roosevelt. The limousine in use on that fateful day in Dallas in November 1963 was also a Lincoln. It is currently on display at the Henry Ford Museum. Lincoln vehicles have also been used by Presidents Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan and Bush.

Beginning in 2007, Lincoln made a change to its marketing strategy and began giving three-letter names to all new models with the exception of the Navigator and the Town Car. In 2009, Lincoln is expected to make the MKS its new flagship model, replacing the Town Car, which has had that position in the Ford line up since 1981.

Fun Number Plates

Number plates can be used for things other than identifying motor vehicles. They are robust and weatherproof, so are suitable for indoor and outdoor use.

Number Plates can be Fun!

However, these are purely fun number plates which must not be used as a license plate on a motor vehicle. They can be adorned with your favourite cartoon characters, football team or numerous other things and used as a name plate or other decoration for the door of your bedroom, study or even your shed. With many colour schemes and designs, you really can invent your own door plate to reflect your personality.

Number Plates as Door Plates

Your child's bedroom door could be labelled with a fun number plate. Complete with the child's name and favourite animal, cartoon or football club. A slogan such as 'Henry's Room Keep Out!' can be featured as well and your child will have a uniquely personalised door plate.

The Funny Plate as a Gift

Fun number plates could be an interesting gift for someone, particularly useful for that person for whom you have no idea what to get for them. Adorning a Road Legal Number Plate

For the car enthusiast, there are the badges of all the major manufacturers. Even if you will never own a Ferrari or a Maserati, you can still have one of those famous badges. You may just decide to have the badge of your current car, either way your door plate can reflect your enthusiasm for the brand.

Football Plates

Football fans can add to their memorabilia with a custom built number plate complete with the team colours and the badges, plus a slogan or your name. This can then be displayed in 'football corner' or on your door.

Number Plates as Door Signs

Of course there is no reason why these novelty plates cannot be used on the interior doors of pubs, clubs or any other suitable public place. They could be used as identifying signs for the cloakroom, games room, toilets and so on.

Easy to Hang

The number plates can be easily secured to the door either by screwing into place or by the use of sticky pads, although obviously screwing them in place will be much more secure. They are easy to care for and just require a little dusting or a wipe over with a damp cloth.

Design Your's Today!

Fun number plates are suitable for everyone and there are themes relating to hobbies, sports, animals, cartoons, films and so much more. Go on, design your door plate today!

Federal Auto Auctions - All You Need to Know About Finding the Right Auctions

For those who have come across federal auto auctions in the past, it would be pretty clear that the cost of cars and vehicles being auctioned here is pretty low. Some people have actually made it a business to buy ultra cheap cars from these auctions and sell them further at increased rates, thereby churning huge profits out of them. While some people frequent these auctions in order to get the cheapest cars possible, there are other people who actually visit these sites in order to get their hands on one of their favorite car models at a really low price as compared to the market price. All this, however, is not as rosy as it seems on the face of it. It is very difficult to locate these automobile auctions in the first place and second, if you happen to locate these, you are bound to have a hard time looking for the right vehicle for the right price. In this article, we would be discussing ways in which you can locate these auctions with greater ease.

Usually, the general protocol in which people actually come to know that an automobile auction is taking place in the neighborhood or in their town is by word of mouth propagation- and if you do not have contacts with the organizers or with the local departments, chances are that you would not even come to know about the auction in the first place. You should research a lot on your own in order to get information about such auctions. Checking national and local newspapers regularly for such auctions should give you a fair idea about the pattern in which these auctions are arranged. You would, in most cases, notice a pattern according to which auctions are arranged in your town. For instance, there are summer sales, winter auctions, auctions during Christmas etc.

Keep looking for such patterns in the paper- this should help you gauge a rough estimate of when the auction is supposed to be put up in your town or in a town near you. Federal auto auctions are not widely publicized because the government is not usually interested in spending on advertising. Therefore, it becomes all the more important that you keep in close contact with government and federal agencies to know more about such auctions. Remember- the lower is the publicity done by the agencies, more are your chances of grabbing a great bargain on the deals.

Nuances of Public Auto Auctions

Did you know that there are a number of public auto auctions scheduled almost every day in some part of America? It is not easy, albeit, to get information about these auctions, but if you do happen to visit one of these on a Saturday morning with your family, be rest assured that you are in for a treat. There are hundreds of people who get their hands on the best of vehicles at an unimaginably cheap price at such auctions. There are some traps though, which need to be avoided while attending such auctions. In the remainder of this write up, we would be taking a closer look at the conduct, ethics, decorum and common traps of an auction.

The first thing you should be aware about is that these auctions do not, usually offer any guarantees pertaining to the performance of the vehicles on display. You should, however, seek a guarantee with respect to all the legal liabilities associated with the vehicle. In short, you should ensure that the vehicle you intend to bid on doesn't have any outstanding legal liabilities on it and that it has no connections whatsoever with its previous owners. Doing such a ground work becomes all the more important and relevant when the auction is being conducted by a private agency on behalf of the governmental authorities.

There might be more than one services being provided at the auction. You should pick out the services that seem the best to you and then evaluate amongst them in order to narrow down your search to one or two such services. There are some auction houses which have a feedback book. It is always good to check out legitimate reviews from those who have had a first hand experience of attending such auctions. It can also be worthwhile to ask a friend or a relative having profound knowledge in attending auto auctions to accompany you to the site.

Finally, it is a good idea to do some research on public auto auctions on the internet before actually going for an auction. It is suggested that if you are a first timer at auctions, you should go to only some of the most famous auctions in your region in order to get exposure to quality dealing. It is also suggested that you attend a few auctions by the motive of learning how deals are conducted at such auctions and not by the motive of actually doing some end-user purchasing.

Is it Worth Leaving a Traditional Used Car Dealership and Going to Used Auto Auctions Instead?

Recently, due to the recession and an economic slump, a lot of people have started going in for used cars instead of getting a brand new car out of a dealership. There are two ways in which you can get your hands on a used car- firstly, you can go to a traditional dealership that deals with sale of used cars and secondly, you can visit one of the many used auto auctions. There are a number of myths surrounding these auctions and people usually feel that it is safer for them to go to a dealership instead. You would, however, be surprised to know that most dealers dealing with used cars actually get a lot of their inventory from such auctions itself and sell those vehicle at 50% to 75% higher rates than they had actually purchased it. Yes, if you are paying 90% less than the anticipated market value of a vehicle at an auction, you can expect some malfunction, but it would be worth the risk and usually, the vehicles run just fine.

Although, it is a known fact that you are safer while dealing with a legitimate dealer, but, there have been instances when the cars purchased with dealers also have some sort of defects with them. At the auctions, on the other hand, you can never be sure of the running condition of the vehicle as you are not allowed to test drive the vehicle before you choose to bid on it. Vehicle are sold on an as-in basis. You might come across a vehicle that would have no physical damages, but the engine would be wrecked. On the other hand, you might face a totally wrecked vehicle on the outside, but with a perfect engine. It is elementary therefore, that you know a wee bit about cars. It is also important that you have the ability to judge the running condition of the vehicle, just by looking at it.

One of the biggest reasons that personally prompt me to go in for used auto auctions to purchase vehicles is the fact that it is not necessarily true that you end up buying an old vehicle at such an auction. With a dealership, you are sure about the fact that the vehicle you are testing and interested in, is actually used and old, whereas, this is not the case with used car auctions.

Online Auto Auctions - All You Ever Wanted to Know About Them

Online auto auctions can be your one stop shop to getting some of your favorite car models in one go- at a dramatically cheap price. Purchasing a vehicle through such auctions can save you up to 50% to 75% on your auto deal. While, there are many general online auction sites which might (or might not) have vehicles listed on them, there are certain specific sites which deal only in auto auctioneering. Such site, which are specific to auto auctioneering should be preferred to deal with and it is usually such sites which provide the best value for money to the end user.

As a word of caution, it is important to know that while getting a vehicle through online auctions can save you a lot of money, it should be approached with caution. One should have a clear understanding of how online auctioneering works and should proceed with utmost caution in order to get the best of deals with minimum risks. Another thing worth noting about sites conducting auctions online is that such sites might charge a membership fees or a user premium for every deal they make. This should add about 10% to the perceived cost of the vehicle and a user should factor in such possibilities in order to avoid any hick ups with the deal.

Most sites conducting auctions get their inventories of vehicles from federal and governmental agencies. Most of these vehicles are confiscated vehicles, taken by the police or a bank/insurance agency, from the defaulters. It is therefore imminent that you check up with the auctioneering authority about the legal liabilities that the vehicle might carry with it. In reality, all the liabilities that the vehicle has are waived of after the sale and once purchased, there are no legal connections between the vehicle and its previous owner. Just to be sure, one should, however, check up with the authorities.

You can also use some sites conducting online auto auctions to know more about the kind of vehicles that are usually auctioned at real auction sites. This information can then be used by the user to actually go to an auction site and decide a bid on the vehicle of their choice. There are some sites which are specifically designed for the purpose of providing information about the venue and timings of governmental and federal auctions. As a final word of caution, you are recommended to use only trusted sites which have been there for some time in order to prevent scams.

How to Locate Local Auto Auctions?

Although a lot of good things have surfaced about local auto auctions and the kind of cost effectiveness they provide, things get sour when you actually have to locate one near you. It is not only difficult, but impossible at times to actually find an auction running in the vicinity of your home. The situation takes a turn for the worse are neither the governmental agencies conducting the auctions, nor the people participating in them are interested to tell others that such an auction is taking place. Government agencies do not find it appropriate to spend a handsome amount of money in advertising about an auction that might take place and the people participating the auctions do not want other probable high bidders to participate, as that might prompt them to increase their bids as well- thereby resulting in net loss for such people.

You should also research on the model you are looking for. The best strategy before going to an auction is to actually research on a few popular models and makes that are commonly auctioned during such auctions. From experience, I can safely assume that trucks and heavy vehicles are more prominent at such auctions as compared to family cars because of the profiles of the people using these vehicles. Therefore, you should jot down the models that you need; rather than getting confused after seeing a number of good vehicles at the same place, being given away at throw-away prices. After doing your research on the model you need, it is time to research on the amount of money you would like to bid for a particular model. At times, you might just fall for one car to such an extent that you might end up bidding exorbitantly high for that model. It is eminent that you think with your brain and not with your heart while dealing at such auctions, else you might end up purchasing a vehicle at a rate higher than the market rate.

As a final word, while you are attending one of these local auto auctions, be prepared with all that you might need to seal a deal that you find worth the money. Have enough cash with you, as auctioneers usually do not accept checks. Bidding well and maintaining decorum should be on top of your list. Finally, be prepared to face the risks involved- If you are expecting a 90% discount over market price, then you should be prepared for associated side effects and malfunctions as well.

MG T Types

Later replaced by the popular MGA, the T series of cars by MG were manufactured for nineteen years, from nineteen thirty six to nineteen fifty five. The convertible sporting car series was composed of the TF and TF 1500, TD, TC, TB and TA, listed from newest to oldest.

The first variation within the T series was the TA, produced between nineteen thirty six and nineteen thirty nine. The engine had a capacity of one point three litre, and produced fifty horse power. Three thousand units were produced, selling for two hundred and two pounds each. Three body types were produced; the airline coupe, the Tickford drophead, and the roadster.

The second variation, the TB, was produced between nineteen thirty nine and nineteen forty. The one point two litre TB had a smaller but more innovative XPAG engine, producing fifty four horse power. Three hundred and seventy nine units were made in total, with two body styles available; the roadster and the Tickford drophead.

The TC was released in nineteen forty five and was the first MG car after the war. The production ran for five, until nineteen fifty, with a total of ten thousand cars produced, each selling on the market for five hundred and twenty seven pounds. This T series variation was exported to the United States, although the car was only manufactured with right hand drive specifications. Only one body type was produced, the roadster.

The MG TD was only manufactured for three years, between nineteen fifty and nineteen fifty three, although an impressive thirty thousand units were produced. Bumpers were fitted to the car as standard, and model was equipped with front independent suspension. A Mk2 model was produced alongside the TD, which had a higher tuned engine and greater power output.

A slightly updated MG TD was released in nineteen fifty three, to bridge the gap until the MGA was given the green light for production. Nineteen fifty four saw the increase of engine capacity, thus leading to the TF 1500. Production finished in nineteen fifty five, with close to ten thousand units manufactured.

Classic Cars For Sale has a wide selection of MG cars for sale.

How and Why You Should Build a Hydrogen Generator to Increase Gas Mileage & Engine Performance

In order to build your own hydrogen generator to increase gas mileage and engine performance, you must first understand how a hydrogen works to create a burnable gas called HHO, or Brown's gas and how this gas mixes with the fuel you already use to increase gas mileage.

First, I would like to say that a recent victory for this type of technology was won against the FTC who was suing one of the largest suppliers of pre-built hydrogen generators claiming the technology could not work because it violated the laws of thermodynamics, an argument critics have made all across the web.

The FTC lost and it was proven in a court of law that the fuel saving device did work and had nothing to do with the laws of thermodynamics. This is pretty awesome as the FTC does not lose cases like this and in fact, was only the second time in the history of New Jersey where the case was tried that the FTC failed to win its suit and destroy the company it had targeted.

That said, I know the hydrogen generator works because I built one myself over a year and a half ago and it is currently saving me a ton of money on my gas bills. I do believe gas prices will go even higher than they were before and you need to get your self ready.

The idea behind the hydrogen generator is that you can separate a water molecule into its core components of hydrogen and oxygen. By applying a small voltage through a set of electrodes using your car's battery, you can cause the water molecules to break apart into two parts hydrogen and one part oxygen called HHO, or Brown's gas.

This gas combust completely because of its small droplet size and does not need to be atomized like regular gas or diesel does and therefore burns more completely. When this gas is added to the atomized fuel source you use, the overall surface area is drastically increased giving you more fuel to actually burn and therefore increasing gas mileage.

The hydrogen generator is easy to build and you can get all the parts required locally and for under $65. If this country girl can build one, I'm sure just about anyone can. Why not give this cool technology a try? The government and the greedy oil companies have proven they don't want you to have it so it must work and in fact has been proven in court to do so.

Want to build one yourself? Of course you do! I have a guide at my website that will show you, step by step how to make this hydrogen generator to use water for gas. It's freakin awesome and the tax hungry government can't do anything about it! Go to http://MylaMadson.com/hybrid

Can You Make Money From Personalised Number Plates?

How many times do you notice a car number plate in front of you reads slightly differently to a normal plate? Maybe it spells a name, is shorter than the average, or simply does not give any clue as to the age of the vehicle it adorns. Whatever your point of view on the concept of owning a personalised registration, there can be no escaping the fact that they remain a highly popular personal car accessory with thousands of UK motorists.

People buy personalised registrations for a wide variety of reasons. They can perhaps represent their initials; advertise their business or profession; bear an amusing message or simply disguise the true age of a vehicle. For many buyers though they are seen as a wise long-term investment.

Whatever the reason behind purchasing a private number plate it seems the popularity of owning one just keeps increasing. UK number plate auctions continue to attract interest, with many bids far exceeding reserve prices and continuing to sell for record fees. While the price of a car generally depreciates, a personalised number plate can retain its value, and in some cases even increase.

So what makes a number plate valuable?

Personal number plates vary in value from a couple of hundred pounds to tens of thousands of pounds. They are usually more expensive if they spell a particular word or name. In the world of personalised number plates 'less-is-more' and the fewer letters and digits a number plate has, the higher its value.

The more valuable number plates are from the earlier issues, before registrations numbers became associated with a particular year of vehicle manufacture. These highly desirable 'succinct' registrations usually have fewer characters within them and are extremely distinctive. They are much rarer than modern registrations due to the simple fact that few were transferred to newer cars. Consequently when the vehicle was taken off the road, its succinct registration number also came to the end of its life. This means there are relatively few in circulation and only a handful on the open market.

It is very difficult to determine the value of a personal number plate as the saleable value is purely market driven. An accurate valuation of a private number plate is usually demonstrated quite quickly by the amount of interest shown in it by potential buyers.

Creating and fulfilling buyer desirability is the main key to determining the value of a private registration. You need to bear in mind that a personal plate is exactly that - personal! So a plate that spells a specific name or set of initials will have a more limited market than one that spells a general word. Another factor is how many other number plates display a similar message to yours?

Generally, the accuracy with which a private registration spells a word, name or phrase determines its value to the buyer; as does the level of availability of similar number plates for sale at the time the buyer is looking to purchase.

Like many other investment opportunities a personal number plate cannot guarantee a profitable return, indeed there are some people who simply regard personalised number plates as a waste of money and cannot understand anyone's desire to own one. But it is a growth industry and has remained steady even during the current economic climate. This suggests there is still an opportunity to capitalise on the UK car owner who wants to stand out from the crowd.

Therefore, make sure you keep the Auto Check Vehicle Report of your vehicle ready before inviting customers. Give a copy of this report to your customer to convince him/her that your vehicle has never been wrecked and that its mileage has not been rolled back.

3) There is absolutely no denial of the fact that your vehicle maintenance record, featuring the details of oil changes and battery check-ups done in the past, is the most significant selling tool. Organize all the service reports you have in the car file. A well-maintained record is bound to impress your customers.

4) Instead of limiting yourself to newspaper classifieds that are limited only to a local population, post auto classifieds on a few popular websites to get a massive exposure and a larger number of responses.

5) Do not quote a very high asking price. Also, do not under-price because if you do so, buyers will definitely suspect the quality of your used vehicle. Therefore, before advertising your auto sale, make sure you have researched the market thoroughly to estimate the best value for your vehicle.

New Law Requiring Auto Maintenance Services and Smog Checks to Check Tire Pressure?

According to the EPA, DOE, and several Think Tanks; if all the cars and trucks on the road had their tires checked it would save 2-5% of the amount of fuel we use in the United States. That's huge and no one can deny that. And since this is so the Obama Administration has asked the industry associations and EPA to look into this.

So far, they've been toying with the idea of making it mandatory for auto maintenance companies to check the air pressure in the tires of every car that comes through for service. If nothing else it will surely get people thinking and it will definitely save people who've had their cars are cared for by the auto service company a bit on their fuel bills from more efficiency with proper pressure.

Some in the auto industry do not like this idea, because if someone has their tires checked and then gets into an accident they might sue the car service company that did the last work, stating that they caused "in part" the accident. Those in the industry that are worried do have some good points, because we live in an outrageously litigious society, and we do have more lawyers per capita than any other place on the planet.

Heck, even our President is a lawyer. Thus, we have to ask is it wise to make this a law? Remember the Ford Explorer class-action lawsuit that took down Firestone Company, a company that had been in years over 8-decades? It would be nice to have the auto service companies immune to such lawsuits, but of course, if one ever is negligent or purposefully abusive (perhaps an employee with a grudge) then people will want the right to sue. So, I ask, what can we do?
